things to do

We have 2 great walks straight from our door…

The disused railway line that used to link Crianlarich and Killin and went all the way to London to help bring the gentry to the highlands for their weekend sporting events.  Walk through the field with the highland cows to reach the path and walk as far as you can along the old railway line towards Glen Ogle.

Or head over the ‘the private beach’, over the road at the River Dochart, when you reach the river you’ll find the secluded pebble beach that we visit with our kids as often as possible.  Many have swam in the river - if you’re brave, and look out you may encounter some canoeists on their way down the river or some sheep in the field.

Killin, the Falls of Dochart and Loch Tay

The picturesque Falls of Dochart run through the local village of Killin, about 10 minute drive from Suie Hunting Lodge in Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. The falls can be viewed from the bridge over the river which also has a gate onto Inchbuie island, known as the traditional and ancient burial place of Clan Macnab. Killin is located at the western end of Loch Tay on which there are various water sport activities, see below and also great gentle walks from the centre of the village to the head of Loch Tay.

The Old Mill in Killin is a a 1840's watermill, local heritage hub, home of the Old Mill Makers' Market, selling locally made art and crafts, and home of St Fillan's Healing Stones from the 8th Century. Check our facebook page for what's on and opening times: www.facebook.com/OldMill.KAT

Water Sports

Canoe and kayak hire can be found at Killin Outdoor Centre.

In Your Element offer a range of activities from their location within Loch Tay Highland Lodges, a short drive from Killin.  Activities are available to book here.

Hill Walking

Suie Hunting Lodge is a great base for hill walking, with the Tarmachan Ridge and Munros of Ben More, Ben Lawers and Beinn Ghlas all close by.

Ben More, "the great mountain" is a mountain in the Breadalbane region of the southern Scottish Highlands, near Crianlarich. At 1,174 metres (3,852 ft), it is the 16th highest Munro and is the highest of the so-called Crianlarich Hills. There is no higher land in the British Isles south of Ben More.

The Ben Lawers National Nature Reserve is home to nine mountains, seven of which are Munros.  At 1,214m (3,984ft) Ben Lawers is Scotland’s 10th highest Munro. A 25 minuite drive from us and then a climb to the summit will see you rewarded with magnificent views of Ben Lomond and Glencoe to the west, and the Cairngorms to the north.

Whisky Distilleries

Scotland is famously known for its whisky and distillery tours are widely available. Helpfully most distilleries now do their tasting whisky in a drivers take away so that you can enjoy it safely at home or later, great idea!

Our closest distillery is Glenturret near Crieff, out to the west of us.

If you’re on your way to Edinburgh from us Deanston Distillery might be handy for you.

On the way to Glasgow, you could visit Auchentoshan.

Finally if you’re heading up north, you have plenty to choose from, we’re happy to help you choose, but there a really helpful map on the scotch whisky association website.
